Exclusive Room Available!

Dhaka awaits YOU

The Room
Expansive and glorious, this room suits those who like space and commanding views.  Two huge windows let in the smouldering Dhaka light, with the west facing window providing a daily homage to the sinking sun's golden rays.   A spacious balcony allows you to take in breathtaking vista across the bustling metropolis of Dhaka, and the nerve-centre that is road 24 below.  An easy access side door provides for a direct exit outside for those anti-social moments.  The hygienically cosy bathroom provides pampering only footsteps away. All for a monthly rent of 12000 taka, this wont last for long!

The Apartment
Located at the exclusive address of Road 24, Gulshan, this spacious top level apartment with rooftop just upstairs commands gorgeous views of the neighbouring construction sites and other key aspects of contemporary Dhaka living.  The style blends the love of traditional Asian tiles with a modern minimalist chic, offset by a cane-led interior. Wireless internet is standard, and there are table tennis and badminton facilities for your recreational needs.  This IS modern cosmopolitan living at its finest.  A stone's through away from the conveniences of Agora supermarket, the winsome Banani lake, and numerous beauty parlors, the location will satisfy the most discerning and worldly guest.

The People
Difficult to describe using merely words alone, the Choy House bunch (Marie, Aliki, Camelia and a mystery 4th person) are an eclectic mix encompassing gender analysts, public health specialists, and water experts.  They are united in their love of the relaxed Dhaka lifestyle and the occasional rooftop party.

The Room Furnishings
  • Double bed 'western style' mattress
  • Double bed cane base 'Princess'
  • Authentic 'dhaka-style' desk and table
  • 2xCane bedside tables
  • Desktop lamps
  • Floor rug
  • 2xBed cover/blanket
  • 'Open-style' hanging 'wardrobe' (read bedframe)
  • Cane set of four drawers including lock
  • Canon 3 in 1 MP198 printer (I couldnt get it to work, but maybe you can)
  • Cute Nepalese ceremonial hat
  • Box of random things that I inherited from the last AYAD and have added my own random contributions (think extra towels, stationary, fix it stuff etc)
Want more?  I'll throw in some wonderfully handy items such as a fitness ball, bathroom mat (350tk) 3 pillows (1000tk), 2 x multiple plug power cords (900 tk and one fitted sheet, two flat sheets, plastic raincoat, cane mat, cane clothes basket, and pillow cases. Also one pot plant which has survived in Bangladesh through my time!

Selling as a complete bundle for 16500 taka (which you then can sell to the next person).  It's a good set up for the room which you can then personalise.  Don't want to separate as its way too much hassle finding homes for items (they wont really fit in the backpack)

Communal Furnishings
As part of moving into the house, you would need to ‘buy’ into ownership of the furniture. This includes the bond for air-conditioners, tv, fridge, dining table, lounge furniture, plates, cutlery, curtains, light fittings, fans etc. This was originally purchased by 6 AYADs before us at a cost of $700 per person. As the furnishings are now older (but still work), we think its reasonable for approximately $500 per person (covered by your settlement allowance, and you'll get it back at re-sale).

Bond
Room bond is fixed at $370

Availability
The room will be available in early-mid May (just after you spring from the ICO cocoon!)

A world of opportunity awaits...
